Shooting the Portland Trophy Cup cyclocross race

Tuesday I had the pleasure of shooting and racing an early season cyclocross race. For those who haven't heard of it before it's like racing a road bike on a dirt/grass/mud track and forcing the participants to get off and run over barriers each lap.

Anyway I brought two of my trusty flashes and of course my camera with a 16-35mm lens to get right up in there and really make the motion apparent.

As the night wore on and the sun started to set, it gave a really nice backlighting before I moved positions to get some cornering action.

The thing I love most about cyclocross season is all the characters out there on the course like this dude with the awesome green matching glasses. OBRA allows pretty much any bike on the course for cyclocross so it's a great way to see if you're interested in bike racing, and hang out with awesome people at the same time.

Knowing I had to start warming up for my race soon, I went back to the barriers to see if I could nab a few more awesome shots including one of this next awesome person attacking the course on a mountain bike!

If you need any more convincing that cyclocross is awesome just check out the smile on this last person's face and make sure to follow me on Instagram @colespraguephoto and like my facebook page Cole Sprague Photo.
